About injuries

  • This is another thing that’s been somewhat mis-sold in the fitness industry: that we can completely avoid injury. To best understand this, it can help to separate out into 2 types of injury - the first is acute injuries, ones that happen by chance and bad luck. We can’t guarantee that you’ll never get an injury like this again - even the most gifted and best prepared athletes will face this type of injury at some point. However, If you ever face a serious injury, you’ll come back quicker, more prepared and more confident in what you need to do. Second we have chronic injuries and pains, these represent a lot of the “Injuries” that we think about in daily life. These injuries are less likely to happen if the body is prepared for the tasks of daily life - by being strong, being aerobically fit (heart and lungs), being agile (reacting quickly and safely if you stumble, for example) and being flexible. Having these capabilities makes a huge difference in being more resilient and reducing the risk of these aches, pains and injuries from occurring.

  • It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

  • Absolutely! I’m a certified pre- and post natal personal trainer, and sessions are pelvic floor and core informed.

  • I get it - there has been a LOT of fear mongering around lifting weights, or perhaps you’ve had an injury that made you hesitate just doing up your shoes - and so it can feel unnatural to give it a go when it goes against what your body “knows”. This is why I work in small group sizes, and using my extensive experience, I teach you how to understand what your body is saying so you can be in control of your effort and technique.

  • You’re lifting all the time - these sessions give you the chance to prepare your body for the lifting you’ll be exposed to on a daily basis

About Your First Session

  • Before your first session you’ll receive a questionnaire to fill out so I can tailor any elements of the session around the answers you give. When you arrive, we will talk and get to know each other a bit and you’ll meet the others in the group. Then, I’ll direct you on the first exercise and you’ll be into your first session! I understand you might be hesitant and be a bit shy, I’ll try my best to encourage you to feel safe to ask questions and settle in, and after the session we’ll have a short recap and talk about next steps.

  • It can be a good idea to bring water, and any toys you need if bringing your baby. Other than that, everything is provided. Some clients like to wear weight lifting gloves, but this is a matter of personal preference. Most clients are happy to train without.

    • Sports bra that feels supportive but not restrictive

    • Shoes you feel comfortable moving in - running trainers are fine, if you have flat sneaker type shoes, you might find these easier to work with but please don’t feel you have to buy anything new!

    • Clothes you feel comfortable in. Anything goes!

    • Warm layers for the start of session while you warm up.

  • You might be a little sore, as this is a natural result of exercising especially when trying something new, but we’ll try to keep it at a low level of soreness while you adjust. I purposely advise new clients to avoid pushing as hard as possible in the first few weeks to reduce the risk of being overly sore.
